Getting married in Jaffna is extremely difficult. People search for suitable matches based on their caste, religion, and qualifications. The horoscopes must match; the man must have suitable finances, and the bride must match the man. For this reason, parents of brides wander from house to house searching for matchmakers. Parents roamed around seeking matches for their children. In this context, Kanakkar Selavaraja Thurai singam, who was living in the Jaffna Kandarmadm area, came up with the idea of starting a marriage service around 1950, and named it 'Accountant's Marriage Service'. He placed great trust among the people and began registering his marriage service. Initially, registration cards started at 1 Rupee.
Later, word spread across the country. Applications poured in from throughout the nation. A separate office was set up for the marriage service, and educated youth were sought to serve the office. Continuing the tradition, he handed over responsibility to his son Pulavar S. Th. Thakshanamurthi in 1960. After that, the service was renamed 'Sarvadesa Pulavar Marriage Service'. From 1960, under the leadership of Pulavar Che. Thu. Thakshanamurthi, branches were established in many districts across the island, and the service flourished day by day. The name 'Pulavar Marriage Service' grew in the hearts of the people. The glory of having witnessed 3 generations of marriage through the 'Pulavar Marriage Service' and completing over 1000 marriages has been achieved. Various groups and individuals continue to be connected with us to this day. The way of matching horoscopes at the beginning, as it is done now, is no longer the case. Now they only look at whether the lagna matches or whether the thali matches. Now the main position is kept by horoscope. The matchmakers who are well-versed in horoscopes must come. It is only then that the matchmakers who keep the astrology of the horoscopes on top of their confidence that many marriages go uncompleted.
The Accountant's Marriage Service started in 1950, later known as the Sarvadesa Pulavar Marriage Service in 1960, internationally recognized after 76 years of service, and with the aim of continuing the service, Managing Director Pulavar Che. Thu. Thakshanamurthi has handed over to his daughter Selvarasa Kannadasan Mathurahini.
